Stacey Scarborough has been in the childbirth field since 1993. She acquired her certification as a childbirth educator through the Childbirth Education Association of San Diego and has remained consistently active as an educator ever since.
She got her start working with new moms by beginning her career as a Mom and Baby Fitness instructor. That love of being with new moms lead her to investigate the childbirth education field. Once she completed her certification, she followed that up by expanding her knowledge in the field and becoming a labor support doula in 1994 and then an approved Labor Doula Trainer. She received her training with Penny Simkin and was certified through DONA in 1998, and since then, has trained close to 400 doulas in California, Hawaii, Montana, and other states as well.
Stacey became a Certified Lactation Education in 2006 and recently completed the Postpartum Doula Training.
Besides teaching childbirth preparation classes, she also teaches Postpartum Exercise classes, Sleep Strategies, Multiple Expectations, Weekend Getaway Preparation for Birth classes, Breastfeeding, and Refresher classes at Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women, and also for Scripps Health. She also works at the New Beginnings Boutique located at Sharp Mary Birch Hospital.
About Beautiful Beginnings www.beautifulbeginnings.org
Beautiful Beginnings was started by 5 women in 1994. Stacey is one of the founding members. As the awareness of doulas started to grow, Stacey and her partners, Viki Bettis, Rosemary Mason, Stacie Hoffman and Cathie Aymar, saw a need for more doulas in the community, so they began their organization, which today has close to 30 labor and postpartum doulas, Childbirth Educators and others, who are dedicated to supporting women and families during their childbearing years.
Beautiful Beginnings’ goal is to educate and support
the parents-to-be, so that they will be fully prepared for the
new experiences they will soon be having.
As Labor Support Doulas, we become a part of your birth experience as that additional support person. We provide a calm, reassuring presence to the couple during the birth. We help in many ways: provide emotional support, physical support such as massage or distraction techniques, and educational support-providing answers and information. We help you achieve your birth, no matter what choices you make, and help the partner feel confident in their role as well, and can actually enhance their participation at the birth.
The Postpartum Doula helps out in the first few weeks after the baby is delivered. New Moms are always in need of extra help. We can be contracted to come into the home to help with support, education of baby care, breastfeeding help, and to reassure you that everything will be ok!
Our referral network offers services for a variety of needs: in-home childbirth education, referral to community based classes, refresher preparation for the repeat birthing couple, and breastfeeding help. Our information is the most updated available. Our network of doulas allows you the confidence of always having a doula to meet your needs.
We have many women who offer services in a wide range of specialties such as: exercise, lactation needs, massage therapy, accupunture, yoga classes, and teen needs.
Beautiful Beginnings is the first labor and postpartum support
team in San Diego County.
We also provide training to become a Labor Support Doula
or Postpartum Doula.
